The Top 10 Most Downloaded Apps Worldwide in 2020

The trend of downloading apps in 2020 has been a little different than before, particularly after the lockdown around the world and numerous individuals are connecting online through different apps.

Here is the list of estimated top 10 non-gaming apps downloads-

1. TikTok
TikTok is a popular app, built by the Beijing-based firm ByteDance, for making and sharing brief recordings set to music. The most popular genres on the platform are lip-synching and dancing. Most creators use it as a medium for viral “challenges”, to emote famous monologues from movies and TV, and deliver clever illusions through editing. 
Though several countries including India have banned TikTok, it still tops the list with 2 billion downloads.

2. Facebook
The social networking platform has become the biggest social network across the world with 2.7 billion monthly active users. The app continues to top the list on both Android and iOS platforms.

3. Zoom

This app, along with a few video conferencing apps, is definitely one of the most unexpected apps of 2020. In April 2020, Zoom reported over 300 million daily participants, and the app featured 2.13 million daily downloads in March 2020. 

This boom is also directly linked to the COVID-19 crisis. As many users across the globe had to begin working from home, they sought Zoom as their video-conferencing app of choice. Zoom allows users to conduct video calls for business or for keeping in touch with loved ones.

4. WhatsApp
The mobile messaging service has become a default way of communication over the last few years. With the integration of payments service, WhatsApp will become a significant competitor to Google Pay, Paytm, and PhonePe. The app has over 2 billion downloads.

5. Google Meet
Just like with Zoom, Google Meet experienced an unexpected boost in downloads due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2020 the app reached over 50 million downloads as users turned to the service while working from home.
Google Meet has grown in popularity during the pandemic because it was made free for all users.

6. Google Classroom
Another Google app to surpass the 50 million download mark. Since most internet users turned to online learning, the app has made it to the top 10.

7. Facebook Messenger
The messaging platform by Facebook has more than 2 million monthly downloads in 2020. 

8. Instagram
Instagram has more than 1 billion active users. As this app likes to keep their stats under wraps, we can only assume that due to its popularity and unmoving status in the app stores, that is surely one of the most popular apps of 2020.

9. Snapchat
The video-sharing platform, Snapchat has seen gigantic growth in India taking after the TikTok boycott. On October 26, Snapchat got to be the most popular app with 4.3 lakh new users.

10. YouTube
Video streaming platform has become a new way of consuming video content. Right from entertainment to education, In May 2020, YouTube was the most downloaded streaming app worldwide, with over 29.3 million installs.
