ANSWERS WITH EXPLANATIONS

Answer1: A) 11pm
Explanation:
Time from 5 am. on a day to 10 pm. on 4th day = 89 hours.
Now 23 hrs 44 min. of this clock = 24 hours of the correct clock.
356/15 hrs of this clock = 24 hours of correct clock
89 hrs of this clock = (24 x 31556 x 89) hrs of correct clock.
= 90 hrs of the correct clock.
So, the correct time is 11 p.m.

Answer2: D) 14 min. 40 sec.
Explanation:
Part filled in 4 minutes =4(1/15+1/20) = 7/15
Remaining part =(1-7/15) = 8/15
Part filled by B in 1 minute =1/20 : 8/15 :: 1:x
x = (8/15*1*20) = (10+2/3)min = 10min 40sec
The tank will be full in (4 min. + 10 min. + 40 sec.) = 14 min. 40 sec

Answer3: B) 40
Explanation:
Step (i): Let x be the number of boys and y be the number of girls.
Given the total number of boys and girls = 100
x+y=100 -------------- (i)
Step (ii): A boy gets Rs. 3.60 and a girl gets Rs. 2.40
The amount is given to 100 boys and girls = Rs. 312
3.60x + 2.40y = 312 -------------- (ii)
Step (iii):
Solving (i) and (ii)
3.60x + 3.60y = 360 --------- Multiply (i) by 3.60
3.60x + 2.40y = 312 --------- (ii)
1.20y = 48
y = 48 / 1.20
= 40

Answer4: A) 60/11
Explanation:
P can complete the work in (12 x 8) hrs = 96 hrs
Q can complete the work in (8 x 10) hrs=80 hrs
Therefore, P's 1 hour work=1/96   and Q's 1 hour work= 1/80
(P+Q)'s 1 hour's work =(1/96) + (1/80) = 11/480. So both P and Q will finish the work in 480/11 hrs
Therefore, Number of days of 8 hours each = (480/11) x (1/8) = 60/11

Answer5: B) 18
Explanation:
Let S.P. of 45 lemons be Rs. x.
Then, 80 : 40 = 120 : x or   x = 40×12080= 60
For Rs.60, lemons sold = 45
For Rs.24, lemons sold  =4560×24= 18.

Answer6: A) 12.5%
Explanation:
Let principal = P, Then, S.I.= P and Time = 8 years
We know that S.I. = PTR/100
Rate = [(100 x P)/ (P x 8)]% = 12.5% per annum.

Answer7: C) 427
Explanation:
Here the given series is 396, 462, 572, 427, 671, 264.
In all the terms, the middle digit is the sum of the first and third digit except 427.
So the Odd number in the given series is 427.

Answer8: C) 11/120
Explanation:
Let the numbers be a and b.
Then, a + b = 55 and ab = 5 x 120 = 600.
The required sum =1/a+1/b = a+b/ab= 55/600=11/120

Answer9: B) 4460
Explanation:
Let the sum be Rs.P.then
P(1+R/100)^3=6690…(i) and P(1+R/100)^6=10035…(ii)
On dividing, we get (1+R/100)^3=10025/6690=3/2.
Substituting this value in (I), we get:
P*(3/2)=6690 or P=(6690*2/3)=4460
Hence, the sum is rs.4460.

Answer10: A) 20
Explanation:
There are two series (8, 11, 14, 17, 20) and (7, 12, 17, 22) increasing by 3 and 5 respectively.
