ANSWERS WITH EXPLANATION

Answer1: B) 28000
Explanation:

Suppose B invested Rs. x for y months. Then, A invested Rs. 3x for 2y months.
So, A : B = (3x * 2y) : (x * y) = 6xy : xy = 6 : 1.
B's profit: Total profit  = 1: 7.
Let the total profit be Rs. x Then,  1/7 = 4000/x  or x = 28000.

Answer2: B) 9
Explanation:

Actual price = Rs. (25 + 2.50) = Rs. 27.50.
Saving = 2.50
Percentage Saving = [(2.50/27.50)*100]
= 2500/275
= 100/11%
≈9%

Answer3: B) (43 + 7/11) min pats 5
Explanation:

At 5 o'clock, the hands are 25 min. spaces apart.
To be at right angles and that too between 5.30 and 6, the minute hand has to gain (25 + 15) = 40 min. spaces.
55 min. spaces are gained in 60 min
40 min. spaces are gained in 60/55×40 min

Answer4: A) 523
Explanation:

Each number is twice the preceding one with 1 added or subtracted alternatively.
So, the next number is (2 x 261 + 1) = 523.

Answer5: D) 176
Explanation:

area of the room = 544 x 374 sq.cm
size of largest square tile = H.C.F of 544cm and 374 cm= 34 cm
area of 1 tile = 34x34 sq cm
no. of tiles required = (544 x 374) / (34 x 34) = 176

Answer6: C) 300%
Explanation:

Let the S.P = 100
then C.P. = 25
Profit = 75
Profit% = (75/25) * 100 = 300%

Answer7: D) 15
Explanation:

i) Let the ages of the five members at present be a, b, c, d & e years.
And the age of the new member is f years.
ii) So the new average of five members' age = (a + b + c + d + f)/5 ------- (1)
iii) Their corresponding ages 3 years ago = (a-3), (b-3), (c-3), (d-3) & (e-3) years
So their average age 3 years ago = (a + b + c + d + e - 15)/5 = x ----- (2)
==> a + b + c + d + e = 5x + 15
==> a + b + c + d = 5x + 15 - e ------ (3)
iv) Substituting this value of a + b + c + d = 5x + 15 - e in (1) above,
The new average is: (5x + 15 - e + f)/5
Equating this to the average age of x years, 3 yrs, ago as in (2) above,
(5x + 15 - e + f)/5 = x
==> (5x + 15 - e + f) = 5x
Solving e - f = 15 years.
Thus the difference of ages between replaced and new members = 15 years.

Answer8: A) 1
Explanation:

Clearly, 4864 is divisible by 4
So, 9 P 2 must be divisible by 3. So (9+P+2) must be divisible by 3.
So P=1.

Answer9: A) 1261
Explanation:

Clearly, Rate = 5% p.a., Time = 3 years, S.I.= Rs. 1200. . .
So principal=RS [100*1200]/3*5=RS 8000
Amount = Rs. 8000 x [1 +5/100]^3 - = Rs. 9261.
.. C.I. = Rs. (9261 - 8000) = Rs. 1261.

Answer10: A) 945
Explanation:

Required numbers are 10,15,20,25,...,95
This is an A.P. in which a=10,d=5, and l=95.
Let the number of terms in it be n. Then t=95
So a+(n-1)d=95.
10+(n-1)*5=95,then n=18.
Required sum=n/2(a+l)=18/2(10+95)=945.
